The Equine Rescue Association (ERA) operates a shelter for horses in Marysville, Washington. It is a non-profit, charitable organization run by volunteers with no paid staff. All supplies, equipment, and feed are donated or paid for by donated funds. Funds are raised by educational programs such as riding lessons, publication sales, and through community outreach efforts and promotional events with local merchants. Events include raffles, tack sales, yard sales, holiday photos, etc. The resident herd consists of 15 to 25 horses in the rehabilitation process, or who are too old or disabled to be placed in adoptive homes. Most are still rideable and benefit greatly from light exercise.
